Slurry & Process Sampling

Slurry stream and process sampling is a difficult procedure to undertake accurately within mineral processing operations. There are many sampling systems on the market including inline fin, side stream and inline to name a few. However, the skill in slurry and process sampling is correctly locating a point where the average mass of the stream is located.

The mass flowing in the pipe has the force of gravity, turbulence of the pipe fixtures, settling velocity profiles and settling frequencies all giving variations to the mass position, in addition to the sampler protrusion into the pipe.

The FLOprep™ system is an inline device that changes the mass flow profile from a Heterogeneous mixture to a Pseudo-homogeneous mixture thus giving a better mass flow spread across ID of the pipe.

Once the mass spreads across the cross sectional area more evenly, take the sample, take a density reading or install a mag flow. Note: mag flows react negatively to turbulence, except in slurry. Fully or partly stratified flow leads to inaccurate readings especially in a horizontal line.
