Why profile your slurry stream?

The liquid phase carries the mass or dense phase through the process as the mineral is extracted. Throughout the journey, various components such as tanks, pumps, filters, heat-exchangers, valves and instruments are all dealing with the flow stream. The slurry stream is a multi-phase flow with variable velocity profiles due to the influence of the mass phase and for convenience is often dealt with as a single phase during the design of a mineral processing plant.

Slurry stream profiling is about reducing the influence of the mass at critical points. The result of the variability between the solids and the liquids in the flow can create process noise, wear to components, fluctuations in thickener or classifier performance and of course the mass flow through tanks.
